Statement on the decision by the Swiss authorities not to extradite Roman Polański to the US

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland welcomes the decision by the Swiss authorities to release Roman Polański, a citizen of Poland and France, from house arrest.

A solution was found which takes into account the complicated legal terms of this case and the life situation of Roman Polański. The consular services of the Republic of Poland have been providing Roman Polański with assistance and support, as would have been the case with every citizen of the Republic of Poland.

In phone conversation with Switzerland’s Foreign Minister Micheline Calmy-Rey, Minister Sikorski thanked the Swiss authorities for the prudent decision.
