
Grażyna Maria Bernatowicz holds an MA in law obtained at
Warsaw University (1968).
In 1971 she completed post-graduate studies in journalism at
Warsaw University. In 1975 Bernatowicz received a Ph.D., and in 1992 the degree of habilitated doctor in political sciences.
She has been on the staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs since 1993, first as adviser to the minister and Deputy Director of the Department of Strategic Studies at the Polish Institute of International Affairs, and then, from 1998, as Coordinating Director for European integration issues. In 2000-2002 G. Bernatowicz served as an Under-Secretary of State at the MFA. In April 2002 the President of the
Republic of Poland appointed her Ambassador Plenipotentiary and Extraordinary to the
Kingdom of Spain and the Principality of Andorra; she held that post until
September 30 2007.
G. Bernatowicz is the author of some 70 scholarly publications, books and articles in Polish and foreign press devoted to
Southern Europe, European integration and regional cooperation.
She is married and has two sons.
