"I was very saddened to hear of the passing away of your husband Liu Xiaobo, a great thinker, activist, writer, and the 2010 laureate of the Nobel Peace Prize. It is a great loss to us all," Minister Witold Waszczykowski said, expressing his condolences to Liu Xia, the wife of the deceased Nobel Prize winner.

As the chief of Polish diplomacy emphasized, Liu Xiaobo was an outstanding intellectual, man of letters, and critic of the world around him. "He would look to the future and call for improving what fell short of his ideals. He was guided by freedom and democracy. Liu Xiaobo will forever be in our memory," added Minister Waszczykowski.
